Subject: Slight spell-checking quirk
Feedback Type: Problem
Product Area: Notes 8 Client
Technical Area: User Interface
Platform: Windows XP client
Release: Beta 2
Reproducible: Always

First of all, it's great to finally see spell-checking in Notes. Thank you!.

Also, I'm glad it doesn't underline words as aggressively as Sametime 7.5 (which psychically determines the "word" you're typing is misspelled even before you're done typing that word). For example: t, te, and tes are all underlined in Sametime while typing out "test". That gets distracting. Very glad to see Notes doesn't do that.

Now, on to the quirk...

The spell-checker doesn't quite handle contraction perfectly:
  • create a contraction, such as: isn't
  • upon typing the apostrophe, the word is underlined (not at the quirk yet)
  • typing the "t" doesn't remove the underline
  • the underline goes away upon the addition of any white space or punctuation
  • go back into the contraction, directly on either side of the apostrophe
  • the left side of the contraction is now underlined (almost at the quirk....)
  • use the up or down arrow to move out of the word
  • the properly spelled contraction remains underlined (finally, the quirk :-)

Ran across that one by chance while editing a paragraph (happened to go up through a contraction).
